Radio broadcasting
Description
This license authorizes the reproduction of sound recordings in:
- commercial radios
- non-commercial radios
- satellite radios
- pay audio services
To apply for a license, we invite you to complete the interactive online form which will be sent directly to the Licensing Department. Once received, we will contact you as soon as possible.
Commercial Radio
Owners of sound recordings have the exclusive right to reproduce and authorize the reproduction of their sound recordings. Through a general license, Connect Music Licensing and Soproq authorize all Canadian commercial radio stations to reproduce sound recordings as part of their over the air broadcasting operations. Such license allows broadcasters to choose from millions of sound recordings without having to obtain individual permissions. The Copyright Board has certified the royalty rates to be collected by Connect Music Licensing and Soproq from commercial radio stations.
General terms
Radio stations don’t have to apply for a license as they are subject to the tariff (and conditions) as set by the Copyright Board. However, they are responsible for providing the required Connect Music Licensing / Soproq reporting forms.

Non-Commercial Radio
Radio station that operates over-the-air radio broadcasting and that is owned by a not-for-profit organization, for example a campus station, a community station, a native or ethnic station.
Rate
- 100$ per year
General terms
- Licensee is responsible for obtaining the musical content
- The license covers only sound recordings represented by Soproq
- Synchronization is not permitted
- Licensee is responsible for paying all other applicable tariffs (public performance, musical works, etc.)
Satellite Radio
Satellite Radio Services, for example SiriusXM.
Rate
- No standard rate in effect. For any information, please contact us.
General terms
- Licensee is responsible for obtaining the musical content
- The license covers only sound recordings represented by Soproq
- Synchronization is not permitted
- Licensee is responsible for paying all other applicable tariffs (public performance, musical works, etc.)
Pay Audio Services
Distribution undertaking transmitting a pay audio signal for private or domestic use, for example Stingray.
Rate
- A percentage of gross revenues, prorated to the Soproq repertoire.
General terms
- Licensee is responsible for obtaining the musical content
- The license covers only sound recordings represented by Soproq
- Synchronization is not permitted
- Licensee is responsible for paying all other applicable tariffs (public performance, musical works, etc.)
- Licensee is responsible for providing all required reporting: financial report for fee calculation and songs report in EXCEL format
